There are general state and federal guidelines for securing an education campus. The following is taken from the Texas latest guidelines for budgeting a thorough journey for a best practice security posture

For what you currently have, did you provide a proper egress gate for recess children to get away from the playground in an emergency?

Have you considered a geospatial technology fence boundary?

Doors and door reinforcement components: 

• Mechanical door auto-closer, lock and egress push bar
• Door frame and center mullion
• Master key re-keying on mechanical doors
• Glass exterior doors not within a secured area — Purchase of forced-entry resistant film and installation materials
• Exterior secure master key lock box with two-lock access and installation materials 
• Purchasing alpha-numerical characters that comply with the International Fire Code, §505; and installation materials 

For windows adjacent to or near an exterior door to become complaint:

• Purchase of forced-entry resistant film; and installation materials
• In the case that the window frame itself is not removable and the frame and window must be upgraded to comply with the minimum safety standards: Purchase of forced-entry window frame and installation materials

• Purchase and installation of silent panic alert technology
• Maintenance/service contracts for silent panic alert technology systems
• Either solely or in combination with other funds, to purchase comprehensive school safety software systems that include, but not limited to, visitor screening, safety drills, response to emergencies, and reunification

• Purchase and installation of equipment that allows emergency responder two-way radios and phones to function within most portions of the building(s)
• Two-way radio systems 

• The purchase and maintenance of security technology equipment 
• Technology, including communications systems or devices, that facilitates communication and information sharing between students, school personnel, and first responders in an emergency 

• Activate lock-downs in one tap from panic buttons, web or mobile app to quickly trigger lock-down scenarios and response protocols.

• Doorway metal detectors may create a criminal environment, making students stretch their creativity to push the boundaries
• Consider mobile metal detectors for random and surprise detection of vape pens or knives

• Active shooter and emergency response training
• Prevention and treatment programs relating to addressing adverse childhood experiences 
• The prevention, identification, and management of emergencies and threats, using evidence-based, effective prevention practices
• Providing programs related to suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention
